- To recognize that it is common around the equator
- To appreciate that it is a disease of children
- To appreciate that Epstein-Barr virus and chronic malaria are risk factors
- To recognize the area of origin of Burkitt’s lymphoma in a lymph node
- To classify and stage Burkitt’s lymphoma
- To recognize it’s aggressiveness
- To identify the rapidly developing symptoms and signs especially the jaw tumour and other symptoms including the B symptoms
- To recognize the importance of a biopsy and a lumbar puncture in diagnosis
- To recognize conditions that may mimic it
- To appreciate the rapid response to combination chemotherapy treatment
- To appreciate the problem of refractory Burkitt’s lymhoma
