  • Their main functions are hearing and balancing.
  • Each  ear has 3 sections: External, middle and inner ear (Fig.1). The external has the aurical and external auditory meatus.The middle ear has the ossicles.The inner ear has the cochlea and the semicircular canals.
  • Each section will be presented separately.

      – To appreciate its parts.

      – To recognize the shape of the auditory meatus.

      – To appreciate its many sources of blood and nerve supply.

  • Middle ear:

     – To appreciate the ossicles shape.

     – To recognize the openings in it.

  • Inner ear:

     – To recognise  the bony and membranous labyrinths and their relations.

  • To recognize the details of the neurovascular bundle of each section.
  • To appreciate dizziness and deafness.
